Christos Foukaras

Christos Foukaras, born in Kissonegra, Paphos, in 1944, received his education in Monumental Painting at the Surikov Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow, and is considered one of the leading Cypriot Artists of his generation. His work, inspired by Byzantine tradition and folk art, is distinguished by its realistic portrayal and chromatic contrast.

Foukaras was honored with the "Theocritus Anthias-Thodosis Pierides" award in 2011 and became an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts in 2005. Additionally, he participated in significant group exhibitions in various cities, such as Thessaloniki (1978), Budapest, Prague, Berlin, and Sofia (1981), Athens (1987), Kuwait and Moscow (1989), Paris and London (1990), and Cairo (1996).

Foukaras's work has been examined in several books, including "Cypriot Artists" (1982-83), "A Brief History of Modern and Contemporary Cypriot Art" (1983), and "State Gallery of Contemporary Cypriot Art" (2002)
